KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen 2022
13th edition of KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen
12.05. – 29.05.2022
The 13th edition of the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen combined music from baroque to electronic music with dance, film, theatre and installations. The highlight
of the programme on the first weekend was the world premiere of rwḥ 1-4 in the Kuppelsaal of the HCC, a composition commissioned by the KunstFestSpiele from the French composer Mark Andre at the suggestion of six Hanoverian choirs. The work was presented once again to a sold-out audience at a guest performance in the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
Other festival highlights of the KunstFestSpiele 2022 - the first edition with the new head dramaturge Rainer Hofmann - also included two productions with the singer Sofia Jernberg (a.o. in Pierrot lunaire by Arnold Schönberg together with Klangforum Wien), the music theatre and dance production Bilderschlachten by choreographer Stephanie Thiersch and composer Brigitta Muntendorf, and the performance Ensaio para uma cartografia by Portuguese theatre-maker Mónica Calle. On KunstFestSpiele Day, families and the curious from the age of 4 were invited to experience a compact one-day version of the festival as well as the baroque splendour of the Herrenhausen Gardens at low admission.
In the talk series Friederike Westerhaus in conversation with... in the open festival tent, artists from the festival talked about their work with NDR presenter Friederike Westerhaus. During the audience talks, the audience was invited to ask questions about the works.
At the talks, the audience was invited to discuss with each other after the performances in small rounds over wine and a snack. For Art & Cuisine, the freitagsküche invited to two unusual culinary evenings inspired by performances at the KunstFestSpiele.
The Festivalcampus Niedersachsen, carried out with the support of the Lower Saxony Foundation, continued. Students of music, theatre and art were given the opportunity to exchange ideas with artists in workshops and to discuss the performances among themselves.
