KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen 2020
11th edition of the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen
23.09. - 11.10.2020 (postponed from May 2020 due to the pandemic)
he 11th KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, postponed from May to autumn, ended on the weekend of 09-11. October 2020 after 19 days with the award-winning opera performance Sun & Sea by Lithuanian artists Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, Vaiva Grainytė and Lina Lapelytė, the performance Future Lovers (unplugged) by the Spanish theater collective La Tristura, the concert wood | metal | glass | skin | water | clay by percussionist Johannes Fischer, and the German premiere of the play Roots by the British theater company 1927. Despite the pandemic situation, Hannover's famous gardens and the new venue in the DHC-Halle were able to host around 100 genre-spanning events from the fields of musical theater, concert, theater and performance. The laser and sound installation Fountain Scan on the 300th anniversary of the Great Fountain by artist Robert Henke, the installation Analemma in the Arne Jacobsen Foyer by Yasuhiro Chida as well as the virtual reality opera Eight by composer Michel van der Aa and the world premiere of the film Second Self: Beethoven Resurrection by filmmakers Hugo Glendinning and Tilly Shiner, accompanied by live music, also attracted numerous visitors to the baroque gardens.
The festival center as an open tent attracted with culinary offers of the freitagsküche and enough space for distance offers to have inspiring conversations before, between or after the performances or to find relaxation with coffee and cake.
Also this year, as part of the Festival Campus Niedersachsen, students of music, theater and art were able to discuss the performances with artists and academics in seminars and workshops and exchange ideas.
