Note: As part of the KinderKunstSpektakel on Sunday, May 24, and Monday, May 25, we will be presenting a different version of Stefanie Egedy’s work, titled Welcome 30 hz, which is suitable for children.
The loudspeakers of BODIES AND SUBWOOFERS (B.A.S.) lie on the Lawn Garden like big black sculptures. The Brazilian sound artist Stefanie Egedy chose this special part of the Herrenhausen Gardens for her haunting sound installation. Between the strictly drawn lines of this garden, where Baroque order and clear structures differently intertwine, Egedy unfolds a thrumming audible map. The low-frequency vibrations of B.A.S. extend through the ground and make themselves felt, as if wanting to translate the geometry of the garden into physical sensation.
Egedy’s composition makes use of resonance, reverberation and frequencies that are more sensed than heard. The subwoofers are arranged like modern sculptures – in deliberate contrast to those of the Baroque, and at the same time a direct physical experience of pressure, breath and vibration.
Lively zones and calm islands arise in this dialogue between garden architecture and frequency. Visitors to the garden wander through alternating pressure fields as sound massages skin and body – an invisible touch that can feel gentle or radical, even healing. Every hour, for ten minutes, B.A.S. is an invitation to experience the Lawn Garden as sound, pulse and vibration.
