KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen 2017
8th edition of the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen
05. - 21.05.2017
The KunstFestSpiele 2017 played new spaces within the city, such as the Capitol am Schwarzen Bär or the Transporterwerk of Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge. Boundary-breaking formats with international productions played for 17 days in addition to the new venues in the tried and tested Herrenhäuser Gardens.
The highlight of the KunstFestSpiele on the final day was the Surrogate Cities concert by Heiner Goebbels in the track hall of the Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge transporter plant. Sold-out auditoriums for the performances Lessons of Leaking by the theater collective machina eX and Perhaps all the Dragons by the group BERLIN, as well as the German premiere of Blank Out by composer Michael van der Aa, confirmed the success of artistic director Ingo Metzmacher's repositioning of the festival. The light and sound installations by the artist Victoria Coeln Painting the Night and Revolving Realities Redux by Marcus Schmickler & Carsten Goertz, in the context of the exhibition "PRODUKTION. made in germany 3" often made the visitors linger for a long time at the Spiegelzelt and in the Großer Garten. The Spiegelzelt, which once again became a lively festival center, served as a meeting place for artists and contributors, as well as festival visitors and garden flaneurs, until late into the night. The Akademie der Spiele - the mediation program of the KunstFestSpiele - offered 51 school students various workshops with subsequent performance visits.
