What happens when an artificial intelligence designs a new world? The Spanish company Agrupación Señor Serrano has made the attempt with their fascinating theatrical means. The result is a visually stunning production, with holograms and computer-generated videos, featuring the emergence of a utopian island. But who belongs to the new community? Do mosquitos? Or viruses and poisonous plants? And what about hooligans who love pizza Hawaii?
An AI has written part of the text and co-developed the choreography. And so we experience a dialogue between human and machine initially in joint pursuit of a better, more peaceful world. The conversation accelerates along with the always astonishing projections and the people moving through this new biosphere.
Can human beings tolerate loss of control? Are we perhaps the system malfunction? The performance – not without irony – takes a new reading of the relationship between human beings and technology. Whether this connection leads to paradise or catastrophe is for the audience to decide. Welcome to the island!
